Surrounding areas

Attractions that
are worth while

Not without reason we call our property Parkhotel: Not far from the Leipzig “Neuseenland” our hotel is situated between extensive parks. Within walking distance, our guests can reach the recreational park Lößnig-Dölnitz, where the large Silver Lake can be surrounded, or the park of the Leipzig South Cemetery.

Recreation park Lößnig-Dölitz

The recreational area Lößnig-Dölitz was built between 1983 and 1988 on the mining use area of the coal mine Leipzig -Dölitz, which was shut down in 1959. The resulting central recreational areas are stimulated by ponds and green play areas. It takes only a few minutes to walk from the hotel to the extraordinary park.

Lake Cospuden

On the southern outskirts of Leipzig lies Lake Cospuden, over 400 ha large. The Leipziger Neuseenland also includes the Markkleeberger lake, the Störmthaler lake as well as the Zwenkauer lake. The 10.4 km long paved circular route around the lake is used by numerous cyclists, inline skaters and walkers. Since 2012, there is also a canal connection for canoes and paddle boats directly from the center of Leipzig, only 6 km away, to Lake Cospuden.

Auwald Forest

The Leipzig Auwald forest, which for the most part runs through the city center, is one of the most important recreational areas for Leipzig’s citizens. A well-developed network of hiking, biking and riding trails lead, for example, to the remarkable wildlife park. The variety of habitats with their rich and interesting flora and fauna offer numerous opportunities for relaxation and nature experiences.

Battle of Nations Monument

The Battle of Nations Monument (Völkerschlachtdenkmal) commemorates the first great mass battle in human history. Over half a million soldiers from almost all of Europe faced each other in October 1813 on the battlefields around Leipzig. The climb up to the top of the monument, which was renovated in 2013, is rewarded with a magnificent view of the city center. By the way: The Parkhotel itself is located on the former historic battlefield.

Park Südfriedhof

There is another park around the Battle of the Nations Monument: the Leipzig South Cemetery, where personalities such as Lene Voigt, Josef Mágr and Christian Fürchtegott Gellert rest. With an area of 78 ha, the cemetery complex is rightly considered one of the largest and most beautiful park cemeteries in Germany. Especially in May, at the height of the rhododendrons, it is worth taking a walk through the South Cemetery, which turns into a sea of flowers thanks to the 9,000 specimens.

Leipzig city center

From the Augustusplatz, where opera and Gewandhaus face each other, along the Augusteum of the University of Leipzig and the Nikolaikirche to the historic market square with changing markets in front of the old town hall, the old town of Leipzig has history and culture to offer. From the hotel to the famous Thomaskirche, it is a short drive by tram, car or bike.
